Just a new little post to summarize the situation with CopyTrans Manager, the free iTunes alternative.

As you probably know, Apple added a key in the iTunesDB of the latest version of the iPod Touch and iPhone (fw 2.x).

This means you can't use an alternative iPod manager.

BUT, CopyTrans Manager can fix this easily.

Your iPhone has to be jailbroken (for the moment). See the next post for a link.

Requirements:

Jailbroken iPhone/iPod Touch with firmware > 2.0
CopyTrans Manager, available here: http://www.copytrans.net/manager.php
HxD Hexa editor, available here: http://mh-nexus.de/en/
NotePad++, available here: http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm
iPhone Browser, available here: http://iphonebrowser.googlecode.com/files/SetupiPhoneBrowser.1.81.zip

Install iPhone Browser, NotePad++ and HxD Hexa editor.

Step 1 - “The Checkpoint faker”:

Execute iPhoneBrowser and browse to: [root]/System/Library/Lockdown/

Right-click on the Checkpoint.xml file, choose “Backup file” and then “Save As…”

Open the file you saved with NotePad++.

Search (CTRL-F) “DBVersion” and change the integer value to 2.

Save the file, and upload it back to your device using iPhone Browser (just drag&drop the file).

Step 2 - “The iTunesDB rollback”

Using iPhoneBrowser, browse to [root]/var/mobile/Media/iTunes_Control/iTunes

Right click on the iTunesDB file, choose “Backup file” and the “Save As…”

Make a security backup of the iTunesDB file just in case something fucks up and open the file you saved with HxD (just drag&drop the file onto).

Change the value at offset 0x30 (hexa value; 48 in decimal) from 02 to 01 (simply change the value in the first column of line 4).

Save the file an upload it to your device using iPhone Browser (just drag&drop the file).

Shutdown the device and restart it.

Open CopyTrans Manager, you’re done! You can now start editing!
